Perspective...
I haven't written an actual blog entry in quite some time... over a month I think. Not a lot has been happening. It's warming up now, so I've been riding my bikes a lot - I had another race this past weekend - I'm not in great shape for such racing, but it's still loads of fun. I'm a member of the local cycling club here. Earlier this month, another member of the club died from leukemia. He was in his 30s, and he was diagnosed just days before he died. Our club is quite big, so I didn't actually know him, but we had a lot of mutual friends. He had 2 little kids ...
When I heard this news, it really hit me hard. I seem to have put things into a different perspective since I heard. Now... a bad day doesn't seem so bad.
I guess I try to find meaning in all of this. But how can you rationalize two little kids who are gonna grow up hardly knowing their daddy?
I think we could die any day - Could get hit by a bus crossing the street, or whatever. I ride my bikes several times a week, and last night I was out riding on country roads... a driver who's half asleep could run me off the road into a ditch. I race on my mountain bike - I could crash into a tree or rock. I play ice hockey and I could fall into the boards head first. So I guess my perspective is this... appreciate all of life's moments, whether it's a sunset on a beach, or a laughing contest with a kid in grade 1, or singing off-key in karaoke...
Life is a series of moments strung together, creating our very fabric. It goes fast so every once in a while, slow down and appreciate all these moments...
